Worship

sunday mornings

Sunday worship at Trinity is at 9:30am. When you arrive, you will notice that we are a fairly casual congregation, with chairs instead of pews and clear windows that let in light and views of the woods that surround our space. An elder (member of our session) will greet you at the door of the sanctuary with a bulletin and any directions you may need. Have a seat wherever you are comfortable. We even have a “Prayground” toward the front of the sanctuary, which is a rug with books and quiet activities for young children to use. If you’ve worshipped at a Presbyterian church before, our style of worship will likely be familiar to you. If not, you can expect a variety of prayers (prayer for forgiveness, prayers for our community, prayers to call us to worship), hymns both old and new, scripture readings, and a sermon. You can find our live stream of worship on our Facebook page each week. You can also watch recordings of previous services on our YouTube channel.

music

Trinity’s music ministry is led lovingly by Bob and Elizabeth Hawkins. Musical instruments that you encounter in our worship together may include piano, electronic keyboard, handbells, guitars, clarinet, or harmonica. We sing traditional hymns, psalms, spirituals, folk songs, children’s songs, new words to old hymn tunes, contemporary hymns, and praise music. Our choir is always looking for voices to join them. They rehearse on Sunday mornings before worship (8:30am) and Sunday afternoons (4:00pm).

Communion

Like many Presbyterians, the communion table is open to all. It is not restricted to members of this congregation and baptism is not a prerequisite. It is Christ’s Table and all who believe and want to believe are invited. Most often, worshippers are invited to the front to receive communion by intinction, meaning, you take a piece of bread and dip it in the cup of grape juice. If you are unable to come to the front of the sanctuary, an elder will be happy to serve you at your seat. Our bread is gluten-free and we continue to offer individually-packaged elements for those who need or prefer them. The Lord’s Supper is usually celebrated on the first Sunday of each month, as well as Maundy Thursday and Christmas Eve.

children in worship

Children of all ages are welcomed in our worship services. We believe that God put the squirms and questions in children, and those are gifts we ought to embrace. We have paid childcare staff to assist families in being comfortable at Trinity, whether you need the nursery for an infant or a little bit of help at the Prayground. About ten or fifteen minutes into the worship service, the pastor or another leader invites the children forward for a time called “We Share Our Faith with the Children,” where that day’s scripture or another relevant topic is briefly discussed followed with prayer. Following this time with children, our youngest kids (birth-kindergarten) are invited to go with Ms. Tina and Ms. Martha for Sunday school. Our older kids (1st grade-5th grade) are invited to go with Ms. Rosie for Sunday school. Of course, children are also more than welcome to remain in worship with their families.
